Hello and Welcome
The purpose of BAMJD webpage is simple.
There is a lack of mahjong-related material out there -- whether it be tailored to Bay Areans or Californians for that matter -- it simply does not exist! To clarify, we are not talking about the tile matching game nor the American version (primarily played by Jewish ladies). Both it seems, is the dominant conception of mahjong in America.
There are isolated pockets of players who live outside of Chinatowns who would like to play but don't have enough players. There are also people who want to play but don't know how or where to get started. We have yet to see a site, group, or organization dedicated to forming and uniting players from around the Bay who share a commonality and a passion for this game.
And BAMJD was formed.
To your left are a bunch of links:
- If you want to learn more about BAMJD and what we do click there,
- However the majority of our community are on the forums. Feel free to register and post in the introductions thread.
- If you are addicted to mahjong like the rest of us you may find yourself wanting to purchase a set. The good thing about internet purchases is that there's no sales tax.
- If you would like to learn more about mahjong and its different rules or contribute your vast knowledge of the game, there's a wiki being developed. Click there to learn more about the non-solitaire version of the game.
We hope that you find something useful in what we have to offer. BAMJD's goals are to create a meet up group that plays on a regular (weekly or monthly) basis and eventually form a competitive team. So far we have interested players from Sonoma, to as far south as Silicon Valley covering everything in between: Vallejo, Antioch, Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco. If you are interested the best way would be to get started on the forums.
Good luck and happy mahjonging!
~ Bay Area Mahjong Dojo Team
